What is a Basic Disclosure?
Basic Disclosure helps employers make safer decisions when they're recruiting people. It is a criminal records check that a number of employees are now obliged to complete.
If an employer wants to hire someone, they can ask Disclosure Scotland or the Disclosure and Barring Service for a certificate which gives details of the person's criminal convictions.
It also makes sure unsuitable people don't work with vulnerable groups, including children and protected adults.
If the person doesn't have a criminal record, the certificate will make it clear to the employer that they have no convictions.
What is needed?
Applicants are required to provide some personal information, five years of address history, and a passport number, driving licence number or national insurance number.
