Completing a Right To Work check for Standard and Enhanced DBS Requests
You will be asked to take part in a simple verification process which includes a movement of the head. This will help to ensure active liveness and facial similarity in real time with your document image.
You'll need the following information to hand before you start your online application:
- a valid, in date, UK or Irish biometric passport.
- a mobile device to download the Amiqus app to scan the passport's biometric chip and take a photo of the passport photo page. You will also be asked to record a video of your face, turning your head from left to right, which will be compared to the photo in your ID document.
Completing the request is still easy to do. Just follow these simple steps and you'll be done in no time:
- If you have received an Amiqus request email, please open the email and select 'Start request'. If you have already started the request but you had previously exited the system, this button will have changed to 'Continue request'. Alternatively, if you have received a unique link, please click on the link. This will open up the Amiqus request.
- Read the 'Amiqus data subject terms', tick the box and click 'Confirm and continue'.
- Complete the 'Your details page', ensuring that you select a 'Title' and complete your date of birth. Then confirm that you have read and understood our 'data usage statement' by ticking the box and clicking 'Submit and continue'.
- Next, search for your address by selecting it from the drop down box underneath 'Address details' or by typing it in manually. You can do this by selecting 'I cannot find my address, let me type it in'. Then complete your 'Contact details'.
- Depending on whether you have been asked to complete more than one check, you may have to complete other checks first. When you get to the 'Photo ID verification' stage, you will be given information about the photo ID check, the type of device needed to complete the check and the different forms of photo identification that you can upload.
- If you then select 'Continue', you will then be shown details about what a photo ID verification check is and what it entails. When you are ready to proceed select ‘Continue’.
- You will then be asked to check if you have a supported biometric passport. If you have a biometric passport that was issued from either the UK or Ireland select ‘Yes’.
- Next, you will be asked whether you have a compatible mobile device that supports near-field communication (NFC). If you have access to a compatible mobile device, select ‘Yes’.
- You will also need to download the Amiqus mobile app, in order to scan the biometric chip, take a photo of the passport photo page and record a video of yourself. If you have either of the devices mentioned, select the relevant one and then ‘Continue’.
- You will then be given instructions on how to download the Amiqus app. Once you have completed the download, select ‘Continue’.
- To pair your mobile device to the Amiqus check, open the Amiqus mobile app and press "Connect to your request" and enter the request code. This code will be found in the blue box on request that took you to the app store, on the device you were using. Then enter your date of birth.
- When you have connected to the check on your mobile device via the Amiqus app, you will see a message displayed which will include your full name as it appears within the request, as well as the logo of the requesting organisation. If you did not send this link or fear this may be a scam, please do not proceed with the check and consult with either the requesting organisation or Amiqus support. If you are happy to proceed, select ‘Continue’.
- Next you’ll be asked to choose the issuing country, press on the dropdown arrow to present a list of countries. In the search field, begin to type in the name of the issuing country until it automatically appears. Select the relevant country then press ‘Continue’.
- You will be shown details of what the next stage will entail along with instructions on how to successfully scan your passport. When you are ready to begin, select ‘Continue’.
- Before you start, you will need to allow camera access. When prompted, you must enable camera access to continue. You can do this by selecting ‘Enable camera’.
- The camera will then begin to load and you will need to position the photo page of your document within the provided frame. Once all corners are within frame, a green outline will show around the image, along with a checkmark symbol. Your mobile device will also vibrate once the image has been captured. Review the image and make sure that your details are clear and unobstructed. If you are happy with the photo, select ‘Submit Photo’.
Scanning Your Passport
- Once you have taken a photo of the passports photo page and submitted it, you will then be required to scan your biometric passport (ePassport).
- You must check that you possess either a valid UK or Irish Biometric Passport. This is recognisable by the small gold camera icon featured on its cover. If you have one, press ‘Use ePassport’ to proceed.
- Next, you will be provided with instructions on how to scan your passport, remember to read these carefully so you understand the process. For more details on how to successfully scan your passport, you can visit our support page here. When you are ready to proceed, press ‘Start Scanning’.
- A pop-up screen will then appear entitled ‘Ready to scan’, along with brief instructions on how to complete the scan. The chip can be scanned placing the device on either side of the passport and slowly sliding the device vertically, from top to bottom.
- When the NFC chip has been discovered, the status within the pop-up screen will change to “Scanning in progress. Keep your device and document still”. Then a checkmark will show once this step is complete.
Should you encounter any issues or have any further questions, you can visit our support page Right To Work.
Recording the Video
- Once the photo of your document has been uploaded and your passport has been scanned, you will then proceed to record a video of yourself, to verify that you are the person you say you are. When you are ready to proceed select ‘I’m ready’.
- When recording your video, please make sure you follow the on screen instructions. Firstly, you’ll need to position your face within the provided frame. Your whole face must be clearly visible, well lit and centred in the middle of the screen. The video will start to record automatically once your face is detected and positioned correctly. You will be asked to turn your head to the left and right, before looking forward again. If you are using a mobile device to record your video, the device will vibrate to alert you once the clip has been captured. Please note that no audio will be recorded with the video. If for any reason the camera cannot detect your image, the system will display further details as listed below:
- Face not detected: This will show when your face is out of shot. You will need to move your face so that it is central within the provided frame.
- Face not centred: This will show when your face is partly in shot. You will need to move your face so that it is central within the provided frame.
- Move closer: This will show when you are too far away. You will need to move closer to the camera, so that your face is central within the provided frame.
- Once your recording is complete, you will receive a message affirming completion. To finish this section, select ‘Upload recording’. You will then have completed the photo ID verification check.
- Finally, you will be asked to return to your computer. If you have any other checks to complete, you will be taken to the next stage of the request. Once all steps have been completed, you will be taken to the last screen entitled ‘One final step’ which will show everything you have uploaded. To complete the request, click 'Submit verification'. Please note: If you've completed the check on your mobile, you will be taken straight to the next stage of the request (if you have other checks to complete).
