Register Your Online Account / Verify Your Identity
- To access the Disclosure Scotland service for level two checks, you must sign in and verify your identity using ScotAccount. Through your account, you can track your application progress, view disclosures, and share them with requesting organisations.
- To complete your application, you will receive an email from Disclosure Scotland informing you that the requesting organisation has invited you to submit an application. This email will include details about the role, organisation, application type and workforce (if applicable).
- You can create your account by clicking the link in the email from Disclosure Scotland. Please note that the link will expire 14 days from the date of this email, and you will not be able to complete the application after that.
- To set up your ScotAccount, you will need:
- Email Address (This will act as your username when logging into your account)
- Mobile Phone or UK Landline Number. (This is so you can get the security code)
- You will be asked to verify your phone number by entering a 6-digit code. If you have a mobile, you'll receive the code via text message; if you have a landline, you'll get an automated call.
- You will then be asked if you agree to Disclosure Scotland verifying your identity. This verification is important to ensure that you are the person to whom the disclosure application relates and to prevent anyone else from accessing your disclosure information without your consent.
- If, for any reason, you decide not to proceed, please inform the organisation making the request so they can offer further guidance on the next steps.
- Once your ScotAccount is created, use your email, password, and phone number to log in at account.disclosure.scot.
- You can start the identity verification process after registering with your ScotAccount. To verify, you'll need:
- Current UK Address
- A device that can take and send photos (like a mobile phone or tablet).
- Valid ID (Passport, UK Full or Provisional Driving Licence, Full European Driving Licence, European National, Identity Card or a Young Scot Card)
- You will be asked to provide details from your ID: First name, Middle names, Surname, Date of Birth, and Home address.
- Disclosure Scotland will then proceed to verify your information online through their partner Experian.
- If your details are verified, you will be directed to upload a photo of your ID and yourself.
- If your details cannot be verified, the process will stop, and you will be directed to your disclosure application. Additionally, a one-time passcode sent to your phone will be required each time you log in.
- When uploading your photos, it is recommended to use a mobile device. You can also use a computer with a camera.
- If you are using a mobile device, start by scanning the QR code on the screen. Then, capture and submit your photos from your phone, making sure not to close the browser window on your original device.
- If you are already on a mobile device or prefer to stay on your current device, you can continue capturing and submitting your photos from there.
-
Once your photos are uploaded, you can close the mobile device window (if used), and your results will appear on your original device.
- If the verification is successful, you can save your details for future use.
- If the verification fails, you can still complete your disclosure, but you will need an additional one-time passcode to access it.
Regardless of the outcome, you can still finish your disclosure application.
Completing the Disclosure Application
If you have not yet created an online account with Disclosure Scotland, please follow the section above, ‘Register Your Online Account’ and ‘Verify Your Identity’, first.
To complete your part of the application, you will need to provide:
- All Previous Names
- 5 Year Address History
- National Insurance Number (if you have one)
- Passport Number (if you have one)
- Driving Licence Number (if you have one)
- You will be directed to log in to your online account with Disclosure Scotland at https://account.disclosure.scot/
- If you are not automatically directed to your application, click on the application listed as “Ready to Start” with the organisation’s name.
- You can review the initial details from the organisation and click on the “Apply Now” button to begin your part of the application.
- Please note: If you notice any errors (e.g., incorrect disclosure level or workforce listed), do not continue. Contact the organisation you are applying to and inform them. You will then be asked to give permission for Disclosure Scotland to use your information for a disclosure check.
- Enter your full current name (including middle names), any previous names you have used, and your mother’s maiden name. This also covers names changed through marriage, civil partnership, or for any other reason.
- There's guidance available if you're transgender or non binary and concerned about completing this part. Disclosure Scotland will not share previous names but they are required to check your criminal record accurately.
- The following sections require you to confirm your date of birth (you must be 16 or over to apply for a disclosure), gender, place of birth, and nationality.
- Disclosure Scotland will then ask you to confirm your current address, any previous addresses you've had in the last five years, your email address (we recommend using the email associated with your online account), and your contact phone number.
-
The following sections will require you to confirm your:
- National Insurance Number (if you have one)
- Passport Number (if you have one)
- Driving Licence Number (if you have one)
If you do not have this information, select "No". Disclosure Scotland will not share this information, but they will help to accurately check your criminal record.
- Before making the final submission, you will be given the opportunity to review your previous answers and then confirm that the information you have provided is accurate.
- Once you have submitted your final details, Disclosure Scotland will verify whether the organisation you’re applying with or you, the applicant, will be responsible for the payment.
- If the requesting organisation is handling the payment, you'll proceed to the confirmation screen for your application. If you're making the payment yourself, you’ll simply need to provide your payment details. Once that's done, you'll receive a confirmation email, and then you'll be taken to the application confirmation screen.
- At the top of the confirmation screen, you will be given a unique reference (e.g., T12345678) for your application. This will also appear on your homepage whilst it is being processed, as well as in the confirmation email. Please quote this reference if you are making enquiries about the application during its processing.
