Completing a Photo ID Check with Motion Liveness
You will be asked to take part in a simple verification process which includes a movement of the head. This will help to ensure active liveness and facial similarity in real time with your document image.
You'll need the following information to hand before you start your online application:
- a valid passport, driving licence or national identity card
- a device to photograph your identity document and video yourself
Completing the request is still easy to do. Just follow these simple steps and you'll be done in no time:
- If you have received an Amiqus request email, please open the email and select 'Start request'. If you have already started the request but you had previously exited the system, this button will have changed to 'Continue request'. Alternatively, if you have received a unique link, please click on the link. This will open up the Amiqus request.
- Read the 'Amiqus data subject terms', tick the box and click 'Confirm and continue'.
- Complete the 'Your details page', ensuring that you select a 'Title' and complete your date of birth. Then confirm that you have read and understood our 'data usage statement' by ticking the box and clicking 'Confirm and continue'.
- Next, search for your address by selecting it from the drop down box underneath 'Address details' or by typing it in manually. You can do this by selecting 'I cannot find my address, let me type it in'. Then complete your 'Contact details'.
- Depending on whether you have been asked to complete more than one check, you may have to complete other checks first. When you get to the 'Photo ID verification' stage, you will be given information about the photo ID check, the type of device needed to complete the check and the different forms of photo identification that you can upload. Please see the following support article for more information regarding the accepted forms of photo identification: What type of photo identification documents are accepted.
- If you then select 'Continue', you will then be shown details about what a photo ID verification check is and what it entails. When you are ready to proceed select ‘Continue’
- You will then need to complete the ‘Choose your document’ stage. Firstly, begin to type in the name of the issuing country within the search field. The name should automatically appear along with the accepted document you can choose to upload below. Proceed to select the type of document you will be uploading.
- On the next screen you will be asked whether you wish to take a photo of your document using your mobile phone or upload a photo of the document. Select the relevant option to move on to the next stage.
Using your mobile to take photos
Taking a photo of your document
- If you are using a laptop or desktop device and wish to use your mobile device’s camera photo of your selected photo ID using your mobile, please select the 'Continue on phone' option. You will then be given instructions on how to take a photo using your phone. Please select 'Continue'.
- You then have the option of scanning the QR code using your phone's camera, or alternatively you can send a link to your phone via text message.
- If you choose to take a photo of the QR code, a drop down box will then appear at the top of your phone screen. Please click that box and enable camera access.
- If you choose to select 'Send link via text message', you will be asked to enter your mobile number and then click 'Send link'. You should then receive an text message from 'Verify ID'. If you do not receive an text message within a couple of minutes, please click 'Resend link'. Please see the following support article for more information: How do I send another SMS link to my mobile as the first one didn't arrive?. Once you receive the text message, follow the link and select 'Enable camera'. Please note: If you're completing the whole request on your mobile phone, you will not be asked to scan a QR code or send a text message to yourself.
- When you have connected to the check on your mobile device, you will see a message displayed which will include your full name as it appears within the request, as well as the logo of the requesting organisation. On your desktop device, expect to see “Connected to your mobile” (as shown below). Only complete this check if you initiated the connection (via QR code scan, link or SMS). If you did not send this link or fear this may be a scam, please do not proceed with the check and consult with either the requesting organisation or Amiqus support. If you are happy to proceed, make sure your desktop window remains open so that you can return to check once the photograph and video have been captured. Then select ‘Continue’.
- Next, you will be shown details of what the next stage will entail, select 'Take photo' to continue. If you selected 'Passport', you will then be shown three photos that are not acceptable and one photo that is acceptable. Select 'Take photo' again and take a photo of your document, ensuring all the edges, corners and security features are visible. If you're happy with the photo, select 'Upload'.
- You will then be asked to review the document. If the document is within the frame and easy to read select 'Upload'. If you are not happy with the photo, click 'Redo'. Please note: If you're uploading a driving licence or a national ID card, the system will also prompt you to take a photo of the back of the ID. If the photo is unclear and you are unable to see all the edges of the document, the organisation who sent you the request may ask you to complete another photo ID verification check.
- You will then be asked to complete a recording to verify your identity.
Uploading the photo from your computer/laptop
- If you wish to upload an image of your document from your computer/laptop, please select the 'Or upload photo - no scans or photocopies' option.
- If you selected 'Passport' you will then be shown three photos that are not acceptable and one photo that is acceptable. Then select 'Upload photo'. This will then open your documents and you will be able to select the photo that you wish to upload. If you selected 'Driving licence' or 'National identity card' please select 'Or, upload photo (no scans or photocopies)'. This will also open your documents and you will be able to select the photo that you wish to upload.
- Once you have uploaded the image, you will be asked to check the readability. If you believe the photo is clear and all the edges of the document are visible, click 'Upload'. If you are not happy with the photo, click 'Redo' and upload a clearer version of the document.
- You will then be asked to complete a recording to verify your identity.
Recording the Video
- Once the photo of your document has been uploaded you will then proceed to record a video of yourself, to verify that you are the person you say you are. When you are ready to proceed select ‘I’m ready’.
- When recording your video, please make sure you follow the on screen instructions. Firstly, you’ll need to position your face within the provided frame. Your whole face must be clearly visible, well lit and centred in the middle of the screen. The video will start to record automatically once your face is detected and positioned correctly. You will be asked to turn your head to the left and right, before looking forward again. If you are using a mobile device to record your video, the device will vibrate to alert you once the clip has been captured. Please note that no audio will be recorded with the video. If for any reason the camera cannot detect your image, the system will display further details as listed below:
- Face not detected: This will show when some or none of your face is out of shot. You will need to move your face so that it is central within the provided frame.
- Face not centred: This will show when your face is partly in shot. You will need to move your face so that it is central within the provided frame.
- Move closer: This will show when you are too far away. You will need to move closer to the camera, so that your face is central within the provided frame.
- Once your recording is complete, you will receive a message affirming completion. To finish this section, select ‘Upload recording’. You will then have completed the photo ID verification check.
- Finally, you will be asked to return to your computer. If you have any other checks to complete, you will be taken to the next stage of the request. Once all steps have been completed, you will be taken to the last screen entitled ‘One final step’ which will show everything you have uploaded. To complete the request, click 'Submit verification'. Please note: If you've completed
the check on your mobile, you will be taken straight to the next stage of the request (if you have other checks to complete).
